It is said that Queen Elizabeth gave Shakespeare two weeks to write this play that showcases her favorite comedic character, Sir John Falstaff.

The dissolute Falstaff plans to seduce Mistress Ford and Mistress Page, two "Merry Wives of Windsor," thereby gaining access to their husbands' wealth. The two women have the old rogue's measure, however, and Falstaff's plots lead only to his own humiliation. But the merry wives themselves fall prey to plotting as their plans to prevent Mistress Page's daughter Anne from marrying the young man she loves are frustrated in their turn.

Dinsdale Landen is Falstaff. Sylvestra Le Touzel plays Mistress Ford and Penny Downie is Mistress Page. Nicholas Woodeson is Ford, Phillip Jackson is Page, and Clive Swift plays Justice Shallow.

William Shakespeare was born to John Shakespeare and Mary Arden in late April 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon. He wrote about 38 plays (the precise number is uncertain), many of which are regarded as the most exceptional works of drama ever produced, including Romeo and Juliet (1595), Henry V (1599), Hamlet (1601), Othello (1604), King Lear (1606) and Macbeth (1606), as well as a collection of 154 sonnets, which number among the most profound and influential love poetry in English. Shakespeare died in Stratford in 1616.

E. A. Copen is a coffee addict living in southern Kentucky with her cats and books. When she's not writing, she enjoys cooking and watching just about everything but romantic comedies (unless there are zombies in them). She's been a film school dropout, a professional puppeteer, and retail rebel, all of which allowed her to develop a cynical sense of humor. She is also an unapologetic nerd and occasional enjoyer of comic books and anime. She is a prolific writer of inclusive, action-oriented urban fantasy, horror, and science fiction. Several of her novels have been Amazon bestsellers.

Robert Kiyosaki, author of Rich Dad Poor Dad, the international runaway bestseller, is an investor, entrepreneur specializing in mining and real estate, as well as an educator. Rich Dad Poor Dad, published in 1997, has held a top spot on the famed New York Times list for nearly six years. Translated into 46 languages and available in 97 countries, the Rich Dad series has sold over 26 million copies worldwide and has dominated bestsellers lists across Asia, Australia, South America, Mexico, South Africa, and Europe.

Dinsdale Landen (1932–2003) was a British actor well known for his television and stage appearances. He was featured as a voice actor in many BBC radio dramas.

Clive Swift is known the world over for his comic work in the television show Keeping Up Appearances. His career has been based, however, on extensive theatrical work with the RSC and other leading British companies, and in films such as A Passage to India. He is the founder of The Actor’s Centre in London.

Philip Jackson is an English actor, best known for his portrayal of Chief Inspector Japp, the Scotland Yard police officer, in the British series Agatha Christie’s Poirot. He has appeared in many other television shows and films, and his stage work includes Pozzo in Waiting for Godot and Willy Loman in Death of a Salesman. He is married to actress Sally Baxter, with whom he has two children.

Reviews

“At the request of the Queen, Shakespeare wrought this farce starring Sir John Falstaff…Director Clive Brill has orchestrated a rousing production that concentrates on clarity…this is a delightful addition to Arkangel’s series of the complete, uncut Shakespeare plays.”
