Stay Sexy & Don't Get Murdered

The Definitive How-To Guide

By Karen Kilgariff & Georgia Hardstark
Narrated by: Georgia Hardstark, Karen Kilgariff & Paul Giamatti
Length: 6 hours 30 minutes

Stay Sexy & Don't Get Murdered

“I discovered MFM immediately after the book was released. I listened to the first episode and knew right away that I needed to read the book. Karen & Georgia's easy, casual friendship and dark humor were right up my alley. I quickly finished the book (which I found both touching and hilarious) and kept working my way through old episodes of the podcast. While I enjoyed the book, I realized that I had become so accustomed to listening to the podcast, I actually wanted to re-read the book, this time in audio form (a format that I do not usually dabble in.) Getting to hear the book material straight from the authors' mouths was delightful and just felt right after becoming so familiar with their other audio work.”

How to Be Fine

What We Learned by Living by the Rules of 50 Self-Help Books

By Jolenta Greenberg & Kristen Meinzer
Narrated by: Jolenta Greenberg & Kristen Meinzer
Length: 4 hours 54 minutes

How to Be Fine

“Enjoyable and engaging audiobook. I do listen to the podcast, By The Book, and find that both Kristen and Jolenta are funny and brutally honest. They share their lives and how it relates to the self help books they are living by for the two weeks. It doesn’t change in this book format and continue to dispense advice by weaving in what they, themselves, learned during their self help journey. I’m not a self help reader, but like knowing what’s out there, along with the books’ strengths and weaknesses.”

Why Fish Don't Exist

A Story of Loss, Love, and the Hidden Order of Life

By Lulu Miller
Narrated by: Lulu Miller
Length: 4 hours 55 minutes

Why Fish Don't Exist

“Just... wow. Never have I read anything like this. It's remarkable. To say it's part memoir and part biography of David Starr Jordan, the famous taxonomist (don't worry, I didn't know who he was either), on some level is true, but it doesn't even begin to encompass everything this book is. In just over 200 pages, Miller tackles existential philosophy, the depths of the cosmos, racism, queerness, human hatred and human resilience, and much, much more. At its heart, this book is an examination of the friction between humans and chaos, between man and nature. I'd hate to say anything more, because, like David Starr Jordan, it's all about the discoveries. I will say, though, that by the end you will 100% believe that fish do not exist and you will be so, so happy to know it. It'll be the best news you've ever heard. Some books you just love and some books you cherish, and WHY FISH DON'T EXIST is one to be cherished.”

Everybody Has a Podcast (Except You)

By Justin McElroy, Travis McElroy & Griffin McElroy
Narrated by: Justin McElroy, Travis McElroy, Griffin McElroy, Sydnee McElroy, Rachel McElroy, Teresa McElroy & Clint McElroy
Length: 5 hours 9 minutes

Everybody Has a Podcast (Except You)

“I'm lucky enough to be a frequent guest on others' podcasts, but I didn't know much about how to produce, publish, and promote my as-yet-nonexistent podcast. I listened to the audio version of this and really enjoyed it even though I wasn't already an established fan of the authors' podcasts. There was a good bit of technical info that one would ordinarily have to dig around for online. They talk about what equipment you do and don't need, and walk you through what you'll require day one and what can wait until you've made a mint. Glad to have this one in my arsenal should I ever create my own show! ”

Talking to Strangers

What We Should Know about the People We Don't Know

By Malcolm Gladwell
Narrated by: Malcolm Gladwell
Length: 8 hours 57 minutes

Talking to Strangers

“Gladwell's synthesis of famous news clips, infamous moments in history, and a collection of behavioral studies is uncannily fascinating. I found myself at turns nodding along with his points and shaking my head incredulously. While I was reading, I would over-analyze conversations and encounters I had with strangers, and then laugh at myself for being so paranoid. I rose to the enraged defense of the victims of violent crimes he recounted in the book and was horrified to find myself possibly trying to understand with some of the behaviors of the perpetrators. In the end, I'm not sure I agree with everything Gladwell discussed. But then again, I don't think he set out to convince anyone of any particular thing. His goal was to answer what could have happened in the case of Sandra Bland and to peel back the layers to expose human behaviors and assumptions that could have possibly played a role in the incident. This was the first book by Gladwell that I've read and I look forward to exploring more of his work. This audiobook was particularly interesting. Gladwell narrated but integrated interview clips, news sound bites, and actor reenactments throughout the audio. At first jarring and a little worrisome, because I thought I wasn't going to understand the clips due to audio quality, it was an addition that I found myself enjoying and really added depth to the book's thematic goals. I definitely recommend this book! Especially the audiobook version.”
