US Ambassador William J. vanden Heuvel presents his most important public speeches and writings, compiled and presented over eight decades of adventure and public service, woven together with anecdotes of his colorful life as a second-generation American, a soldier, a lawyer, a political activist, and a diplomat. Throughout, vanden Heuvel persuades us that there is still room for optimism in public life. William J. vanden Heuvel served as deputy US permanent representative to the United Nations. A former president of the International Rescue Committee, he was executive assistant to General William J. “Wild Bill” Donovan, special counsel to Governor Averell Harriman, and assistant to Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy. He is the founder of the Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt Institute. Ambassador vanden Heuvel is an international attorney and investment banker.
Donald Corren is an audiobook narrator and a New York actor with leading credits on and Off-Broadway, as well as numerous television appearances. On Broadway, he costarred with Judy Kaye in the critically acclaimed production of Souvenir, and replaced Harvey Fierstein in the seminal production of Torch Song Trilogy. His Off-Broadway appearances include The Soap Myth, Dietrich & Chevalier, The Last Sunday in June, Stephen Sondheim’s Saturday Night, and the original New York production of Tomfoolery. His television credits include eight seasons as forensic tech Medill on NBC’s Law & Order, as well as his current role as Dr. Kurian on Syfy’s Z Nation.
